Some of the volunteers on my committee are concerned about the poverty conditions within Canada and Ontario. We have been reading about the current poverty hearings sponsored by the Ontario Liberal government --to take place in Toronto September 23rd. Since we are volunteers with an organization that emphasises Food, Shelter, Santitation , Health and Education for all peoples as basic human rights we would like to give some input into this process. The hearings focus on Child poverty but we believe that child poverty is not separable from Adult poverty and the vulnerability of women , especially single women with children, to poverty. Our agency has campaigned for Womens rights internationally as a specially vital way to bring communities out of poverty conditions. I would like to know your view of these current hearings and any ways you could suggest that citizens such as ourselves could provide input. and your view of the relation between poverty in developed countries and developing countries.the phrase "third world conditions' is often used about the condition of our own first nations peoples in this province and elsewhere.
